Dear Editor,
For quite some time Global Trading, situated on Robb Street, has been operating as an irresponsible corporate citizen with the storage of garbage on the roadway taking up an entire parking space and making the environment look like a dump almost daily.
I recall one rainy day my husband needed to park our vehicle on Robb Street and the only parking space “available” was the one occupied by Global Trading’s trash. Mind you, it was not in a bin but dumped on the roadway. I approached one of the staff and requested the garbage to be removed but instead I was told that was not possible. I was told to park somewhere else. My husband was forced to park on King Street a corner away while the garbage enjoyed a parking space. About an hour later, while I was standing on the verandah of Celebrity Hair Salon I observed two street dwellers removing garbage from the dump and taking it to another location on Robb Street.
Although neighbouring storeowners and customers have talked to employees of the company about their unsanitary behavior, they continue their atrocious practice. This company is guilty of being a litter bug and should be prosecuted for its nastiness. The City Constabulary shouldn’t just apprehend individual litter bugs but also target big businesses. No one should be untouchable.
The Mayor and City Council needs to stop this company in its tracks. If it fails to act appropriately I would want to believe the Council is condoning this filthy habit I wonder if the Council used to charge a fee for parking if it would have allowed Global Trading to “park” garbage for hours daily.
