Andre Gustav, 24, of Vryheid’s Lust who is currently remanded on a separate charge of possession of narcotic was yesterday remanded after a similar charge was read to him yesterday by Chief Magistrate Priya Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ court.
The previous charge alleged that Gustav is the architect of the plan which involved an American social worker who tried to traffic 4.130 kilograms of cocaine.
Chief Magistrate Beharry read the charge which stated that on June 4, at Secret Ville Apartments, North Ruimveldt, he purported to traffic 2.615 kilograms of cocaine through Joel Manget. The defendant pleaded not guilty.
According to court documents, the defendant gave the cocaine to a Canadian citizen, Manget, who was an outgoing passenger at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport but was intercepted with the said cocaine by officers from the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit (CANU).
Manget has pleaded guilty to the charge of possession of narcotics and is currently serving time at the Camp Street Prison. During investigations, advice was sought from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) who recommended that charges be laid against Gustav.
Gustavo was refused bail and remanded to prison and his matter was transferred to another court for report and fixture.
