Assassin marked 89 games to win the Faye Joseph 44th Birth Anniversary Dominoes competition when the final was contested on Wednesday evening last at Gaulin Place South Ruimveldt.
TNT chalked 62 games to take the runner up spot while B 6 who drew the bye to the final finished third with 48 games. Oswald Brathwaite and Leroy Young scored 17 games each while Rafeek Khan made 15 for the winners.
TNT’s leading markers were Trevor Smith and Shawn Morgan with 17 games apiece while Jane Chase top scored for B 6 with 16.
Earlier, Assassin rattled up 72 games to win the semi final. They were largely indebted to Leroy Young and Oswald Brathwaite with 17 and 16 games respectively. TNT finished second with 71 ahead of Providence with 64 games. Trevor Smith made 16 and Leroy Edwards 15 for TNT while Dereck Beaton scored 17 for Providence.
Assassin received $175,000 and a trophy while TNT collected $70,000 and a trophy and B 6 $35,000. Claire Benjamin of Cody Girls took home $5,000 for being the first female player to share a love in the preliminary stage.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony Public Relations Officer of the Georgetown Dominoes Association (GDA) Basil Bradshaw thanked the teams for participating and Joseph for sponsoring the tournament. Joseph, who is also the President of the GDA congratulated the winners.
Meanwhile, Mark Wiltshire and Joey Cadogan will host a 21-team tournament which commences today at Transport Sports Club starting from 14:30 hrs. Entrance fee is $10,000 and the winning team will receive $120,000 and a trophy, the runner up $50,000 and the third place $30,000. One re-entry is allowed; the competition will conclude on Monday evening at Dynasty Sports Bar.
