The Guyana Reading and Research Centre (Bookland) is gearing up to celebrate the opening of its gardens and Fun Park with an inaugural fundraiser on August 1.
According to the Founder and Director of Bookland, Rupert Hopkinson, the centre has a beautiful garden environment with a gazebos, walkways and lawns to compliment its library and book store.
Hopkinson further explained that Bookland which was formerly known as the Guyana Reading and Research Centre was an investment of more than $40M to become an income stream to support the organization mission “Getting a book in every household”.
Bookland is built one foot higher than the avenue to avoid flooding and is located on a 38,000 square-foot facility about 500 meters away from the National Park, Thomas Lands.
The director disclosed to this publication that in keeping with the mission of Bookland, every valid ticket holder to the fun day, until 15:00hrs will receive a free book and everyone will receive a full refund on ticket to the event once he purchases books beyond the ticket cost.
Hopkinson added that his hope is for Bookland to become an “organization for organizations”, granting membership to individuals and clubs so that they can make gainful use of the facility all year-round.
Hopkinson said that it is ready and available to partner with similar organizations in their efforts to raise funds to support their efforts.
The Guyana Reading and Research Centre was established in January 1997, primarily to offer library services to students pursuing post Secondary education.
