Donut Prince of the Colin Elcock Stables with a classification of D1 showed that the long layoff from the track did not affect its performance. The animal imported from Jamaica with a weight of 111 was in a class by itself as it battered the field to win convincingly and take the feature C and lower 1200M event when the Ryan Crawford Memorial Turf Club and Sports Facilities (RCMTC&SF) and the Port Mourant Turf Club (PMTC) held a feature one-day
Horserace Meet on Sunday last at the PMTC.
With veteran Jockey, Yap ‘Old Boy’ Drepaul, on the perch and using all his guile and skill to pilot the animal around the course, Donut Prince, known for its staying power or distance running, came up to challenge the front runners early and soon took the lead.
After that there was no stopping the racehorse as it cantered home to take the $700,000 first prize and Banks DIH trophy. Country Armagh of The Jagdeo stable was second with C.P Got Even of the Elcock stable third and Who Is on the case fourth.
Silent Night of the Mohammed ‘Nankoo’ Shariff Stables and ridden by Jamaican Brian Blake had a bright day as it upset the field to win the co-feature Three Year event for Guyana and West Indies bred horses.
The Guyana born animal trained by I. Bharrat defeated all the Foreign born horses to win easily and take away the $350,000 winners’ money and trophy from Monsoon, Set for Fame and Party Time.
The two year-old animals had their first taste on the track with the Jumbo Jet Stables getting into winners row in the 1000M event for Two year-old West Indies bred horses. Today is My Day with Colin Ross on the mount made sure it was its day as it won from Unsettled, Royal Empire and Untouchable. The win was worth $300,000 and trophy.
The two-year 1000M event for Guyana bred horses saw I’ll Get Another trained by M.C. Crawford with Winston Appadu in control winning the $220,000 money and trophy from Baby Kerry and Sunny Silence.
The G1 and Lower 1300M race saw a comfortable win for Treacle trained by Fazal Habibulla with Richmond in control taking away the $300,000 prize and trophy from Celebrating Love, Quiet Storm and War Craft.
There was a win for Gold Romance of the Saul Stable in the G3 and Lower 1200M event. Trained by Manoj and ridden by Rad Drepaul it took care of business to carry away the $300,000 prize and trophy ahead of Silent Lizzy of the Elcock Stables, Quiet Storm and Red Cloud.
Richmond was again in the winning enclosure as Easy to win had an easy time in winning the ‘I’ and Lower 1200M race and the $200,000 money and trophy from Party Time, Savion and Affinity.
There was a one, two victory for the Ron Velloza stable in the J and K Class 1200M event with Smarty Light ridden by Rad Drepaul and Prince Bayaya both trained by Thomas George taking the top spots and trophies with Famous Pride and Magaline rounding out the money.
The top Jockey was Richmond with Fazal Habibulla the top Trainer with the Elcock, Dookie and Veloza Stables all performing well. They were all presented with accolades compliments of Mr. Ramesh Sunich of the Trophy Stall, Bourda Market.
The incident free day of racing came off with a bang with over 75 horses taking part in the action with over $6M in cash prizes. (Samuel Whyte)
