National Scrabble Champion, Abigail McDonald could not compete when the Guyana Association of Scrabble Players staged a National Open
Championship, the first tournament since she regained her crown. Her rival, Moen Gafoor, participated but just could not seize the honours from Leon Belony whose top performance netted him 6 points and a positive spread of 376.
Gafoor notched up 5 points and a positive spread of 806 to seal off the second place, while Wayne Cave continued to show vast improvement when he sealed off the podium spots with 4 points and a positive spread of 107.
Belony benefited from a bye but also defeated Grace Hercules (200), Robert Williams (21), Gafoor (15) and Cave (61).
