Murder accused and alleged narcotics dealer, Salim Bacchus, called ‘Black Salim’, is once again before the court. Bacchus, 52, of 39 Line Path ‘D’, Skeldon, Corriverton Corentyne, Berbice who was recently committed to stand trial in the Berbice High Court for the murder of Police narcotics detective constable Jirahan Diananand, is now before the court on a charge of possession of arms and ammunition without being the holder of a licence.
Bacchus appeared before Magistrate Roby Benn on Friday at the Springlands Magistrate’s Court and pleaded not guilty to the charge of being in possession of arms and ammunitions without being the holder of the relevant licence.
According to the Prosecution, on December 18, 2009 at Grant 1805 Crabwood Creek, Upper Corentyne, Bacchus was found in possession of one Glock Pistol and eight matching 9mm rounds. The court was told that the police, acting on information, descended on the premises and found the items.

He was among four men who had been arrested and charged in connection with a 40-kilo cocaine bust in November 2011.
He was acquitted in June 2012 but the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) appealed the acquittal.
His next court date is fixed for the 25 July.
