Aaron Jones stroked a fine century as Barbados grabbed first innings points from Guyana in the first round of the Regional U-19 Three day tournament which continued yesterday at Warner Park.
Barbados resumed on their overnight first innings score of 53-3 with Aaron Jones on nine and Jameel Stuart on seven, in reply to Guyana’s 234 and rallied to 305 before they were bowled out in 100.5 overs.
Jones and Stuart took the score to 101 before Stuart was caught off Sankar for 31. Jones then shared in a fifth wicket stand of 58 with C Maynard, reaching his half century in the process which came in 159 minutes off 135 balls with six fours. Maynard was then caught for 32 off Shawn Pereira at 159-5 before Shamar Springer was bowled by Narayan without scoring at 202-6. Jones soon reached his century off 232 balls in 200 minutes with fourteen fours. He and Jofra Archer frustrated the Guyanese with a seventh wicket stand of 92 before play was halted for a few minutes due to rain.
After the interval Narayan trapped Jones leg before for 143 at 294 before Archer and Jerome Jones were dismissed in quick succession as Barbados took a 71 run lead. Narayan was the pick of the bowlers with 5-57 in 22.5 overs.
Guyana, hunting their 13th title began their second innings in disastrous fashion losing the wickets of Shimron Hetymer (02), Tagenarine Chanderpaul (04) and Brain Sattaur (05) at 11-3.
