The inclement weather has forced the Roraima Bikers Club (RBC) to postpone its Bryden and Fernandes 10-race event around the Seawall Bandstand which was scheduled for today.
According to club President Brian Allen, they decided to reschedule the event in the best interest of cyclists’ safety.
Allen has apologised to cyclists and fans for the postponement, saying that the activity would be held as soon as the weather improves.
For this inaugural event, the club is partnering with Bryden and Fernandes, a subsidiary of the John Fernandes Group of Companies.
Allen noted that the aim of bringing off yet another race meet at the Seawall Bandstand is to reignite the interest of spectators in the sport and he is elated that Bryden and Fernandes is on board to help in this regard.
Earlier this month, RBC in partnership with the National Milling Company (NAMILCO), brought off the 10th annual CARICOM Day event at the same venue with more races and it attracted a huge turnout. Allen posited that the Bryden and Fernandes’ activity will be another success.
The Bryden and Fernandes Classic, 30-laps contest will be the feature race which carries a first prize of $10,000. The top six finishers will be rewarded financially.
Other races on the day: 12-14 Juveniles (3 laps), Junior/Category 4 (5 laps), Category 1-3 (5 laps), Veteran’s Over-50 (5 laps), Veteran’s Under-50 (5 laps), Team Time Trials (4 laps), Win and Out (8 laps), Mountain Bike Open (5 laps) and Female Open (5 laps).
Incentives are at stake for the top three spots in each race.
