Regional airline LIAT, announced yesterday that on Monday, July 22, it will commence daily flights out of the Ogle Airport. Ogle International Airport was recently certified Regional Class status.
From a press release by the company’s Head of Corporate Communications, it was noted that there would be a daily flight from Barbados to Ogle, with a daily return service.
The company advised that Flight LI 521 will depart the Grantley Adams International Airport at 12:30 hours daily, arriving at Ogle at 14:20 hours. The return service, LI 512 will leave Ogle at 15:00 hours, arriving in Barbados at 16:50 hours.
In the meantime, LIAT will shortly introduce a late night and early morning departure to/from the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, the release continued. LI 773 will depart the Grantley Adams International Airport in Barbados at 08:00 hours daily, arriving at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport at 10:00 hours. LI 774 will depart Cheddi Jagan International at 05:00 hours daily, arriving in Barbados at 07:00 hours.
LIAT noted that the closer proximity of the Ogle International Airport to the capital; Georgetown, is expected to give the airline a competitive advantage since flying into Ogle would mean reduced flying time and an annual fuel reduction for the airline.
LIAT, ‘the Caribbean Airline’, made its inaugural flight into Ogle International Airport on March 26 last, signaling that the airport had upgraded its status to Regional class. The airline said that it would have commenced services out of Ogle by mid-year. The company might also be pulling remaining flights out the Cheddi Jagan International Airport as this was mentioned during the Ogle’s Regional Class acquisition ceremony.
