The University of Guyana should introduce a fourth year history course numbered and titled – POL 500: A History of the PPP. Every sin, vice, venality, depravity, perversity, profanity, immorality and abomination that came from the hands of the rulers of this county since the Dutch arrived, including the arrival of the British plantation economy with its forced slavery system, right up to the day Dr. Jagan became President in 1992, the PPP Government has practiced, perpetrated and perpetuated on and in this country.
The latest was its defence and acceptance of Gocool Boodoo, a man the majority of Guyanese feel should not be trusted to preside over national elections.
But wait a minute! Did I write the words, “national elections?” If I did pen those words it has to be a mistake. If it is not then it means history is destroying the PPP. Some would argue that history has already mashed up the face and body of the PPP.
The PPP’s strongest claim to history in Guyana was its righteous denunciation of rigged elections. From the first day the result of the 1968 national elections was announced, until the day President Jagan was sworn in as president in 1992, the PPP’s sacred place in history rested on its cries to the world that Guyana did not have free and fair elections since 1966 and that the PPP was the rightful party to lead the country.
The devil in the eyes of the PPP since 1968 was a man named Sir Harold Bollers, the Chairman of the Elections Commission.
The last person in the world from every part of the globe to be seen wearing a swastika would be a Jew. The symbol of the swastika is the anti-Christ to the Jewish race. That was the symbol of the Nazi Party in Germany that perfected the art of genocide against the Jewish race. The last person in the world you would expect to defend rigged elections would be a member of a political party named the PPP in a Caribbean country named Guyana. And why?
From 1968, the PPP’s biology was driven by a crusade to inform the world that national elections were not properly conducted. Today, this very party which inundated the homes of its members with the tears that came from their cries of rigged elections for almost thirty years now stands proud beside a man the opposition claims cannot be trusted to preside over fair elections.
History is indeed a crazy thing. It becomes crazy when you look back at it. What do we see on the clothes of Guyanese history when our eyes gaze upon it? The PPP denouncing tampered elections. Look in 2013 who votes for the Chief Elections Officer to remain in charge of national elections – the PPP. What goes through your mind when you pick up Cheddi Jagan’s famous autobiography, “The West on Trial” and see the contemptuous words used by Dr. Jagan and his party against the Elections Commission Chairman, Harold Bollers? How different is Boodoo from Bollers?
PPP stalwarts tell the nation that when Dr. Jagan was Premier in the sixties, public servants were coerced to take to the streets and demonstrate against the Kaldor Budget. In 2012, public servants told me they were rounded up by PPP ministers and forced to go outside of Parliament and shout down the AFC and APNU Parliamentarians for cutting the budget.
PPP writers point to the bad days of the PNC reign when Jinnah Rahman and three others were charged with treason. The PPP Government in 2011 hauled a man, his wife and their family friend from their Christmas Day celebrations and charged them with treason.
PPP leaders were glad when South Africa withdrew the Oliver Tambo Award from Forbes Burnham. They say that he was involved in the murder of Walter Rodney.
Who killed Ronald Waddell?
PPP leaders tell young people that UG under Burnham refused to employ Walter Rodney but they are now doing at UG what Burnham did to Rodney. The PPP in their writings lament what the Chronicle had become under the PNC regime. Since 1992, the Chronicle has been turned into a larger rubbish bin. President Burnham sued the PPP newspaper for libel. We all know that the Kaieteur News and Stabroek News were sued by President Jagdeo for libel.
We could go on with the “jobs for the boys” accusation the PPP pelted at the PNC Government, but it is worse today. Burnham had his House of Israel goon squads, the PPP Government has its own, of which this writer had a taste of them. The moving hand of history has destroyed the PPP. What next?
