The Government Analyst Food and Drugs Department (GAFFD) have issued statements recalling a batch of ‘Rugby’ brand Enteric coated Aspirin Tables.
The recall is due to a mix up with bottles of pills labeled 81 mg Aspirin but actually contained Acetaminophen Tablets 500mg, a drug that can cause serious side effects or can be fatal, if taken incorrectly.

The drug is manufactured, packaged and distributed by New York based Pharmaceutical Company; Advance Pharmaceuticals Incorporated, under the label of Ruby Laboratories.
Approximately 16,440 bottles of baby aspirins had been recalled in New York Tri- State Area after a CVS Pharmacist discovered a bottle filled with 500-milligram Acetaminophen, a KTLA report said.
“Consumers, who purchased bottles with a lot No.13A026 and expiration date of January, 2015 were asked to immediately discontinue use and return the medicine to the pharmacy or store where it was bought. Repeat Acetaminophen taken slightly too often can be fatal,” the report further stated.
However, while local importers, distributors, retailers and consumers have made no complaints so far; those in possession of the batch of aspirin were asked to stop distributing, selling or using the product and to inform the GAFDD on hotline numbers 222-8859or email their concerns to foodanddrug@health.gov.gy.
Speaking with this newspaper, GAFFD Senior Drug Inspector, Savitri Persaud, said that the department has done its investigations but although the department has had no reports thus far, consumers are advised to be on alert at all times.
