The French armed forces have offered to rent Guyana a specialized boat to assist in enforcing the laws of the sea.
The offer was made during discussions yesterday between Chief of Staff Commodore Gary Best and the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces in French Guiana, Major General Bernard Metz, during a courtesy call at the Guyana Defence Force Headquarters, Camp Ayanganna.
This offer is being examined in detail by Commodore Best and if accepted, the boat will have a Guyanese crew and will be flying the Golden Arrowhead.

According to a press statement from the GDF, the two military Commanders discussed many other issues, including training.
The statement said that discussions centred on the resumption of the exchange Jungle Training Programme between the GDF and the Armed Forces in French Guiana.
Additionally, the French have offered to send instructors to Guyana to train members of the Guyana Defence Force in River blockade.
The two Commanders also examined the possibility of having GDF paratroopers conduct exhibition jumps in French Guiana.
Commodore Best and Major General Metz considered the likelihood of restarting the Military Games among the GDF, the Suriname National Army and the French Armed Forces. They have indicated that their intention is to reinforce the good relations existing between the Guyana Defence Force and the Armed Forces in French Guiana.
Agreements to be arrived at are to be ratified by the Chief of Staff during a proposed visit to French Guiana.
Major General Metz was invited to the Guyana Defence Force Coast Guard Ship Hinds where he was apprised of the operations of the Coast Guard by Commander Gary Beaton. Thereafter he invited COS Best aboard a French Naval Vessel La Capricieuse.
