Dear Editor
It seems as if Mayor and City Council has not learnt from the recent experience when it decided to purchased Waste Compactors Trucks for the collection of trash. It is now noted that the council is taking it further by now going to more sophisticated territory of Market Waste Compactors.
The council again would be warned that it should not jump heads and hands into this venture without the necessary know-how and back-up arrangements in place such as when there are mechanical or electrical failures.
Should the council run into equipment failure without the necessary back-up arrangements then markets, especially Bourda, that produces over 40 tons of compacted waste daily would be disaster in waiting.
The recommendation is that since the Council already has the equipment, it should install it initially at the West Ruimveldt Market which currently is being overwhelmed by garbage. The garbage produced at this market is not as great as Bourda and Stabroek and hence the Council Technical staff would be working under a less pressured situation whilst developing their skills and technical know-how regarding the compactors. The second one should be used as standby.
As council gains the technical ability then it could move on and do the Bourda and Stabroek Market waste processing.
