Dear Editor
I am writing on behalf of myself and some retired employees of the Guyana Revenue Authority. On January 1, 2001, we were asked to join the Clico Pension and Medical Scheme (we are aware that this company has since collapsed). His Excellency the President Bharrat Jagdeo promised that all contributions and benefits would be repaid to it contributors.
About a year ago, the Governing Board of the Guyana Revenue Authority gave a directive that all non-contractual officers should retire at the age of 60. Based on this directive myself and some other GRA employees who have attained the age of 60 were asked to retire. It should be noted that some of us have been employed with this organization for over 20 years.
Having retired we are anxious to obtain our pension contributed to the scheme as promised by His Excellency the President. However, to date we are still awaiting the return of our contributions.
When enquiries are made to Mr. Sattaur, Commissioner General, persons are asked to direct such enquiries to the Human Resources Division, GRA. The staff in this Division would then inform persons that nothing is ready since GRA is awaiting a reply from the Commissioner of Insurance. This has been ongoing since February, 2010.
Some of us retirees would like to have this money to begin construction or complete same on our homes.
It should be noted that we have also approached the Clico Office in Camp Street, Georgetown, where we were informed that since GRA is being dealt with as a group, Clico cannot entertain inquiries from individuals. It should also be noted that other groups have already been paid e.g. Banks DIH and Police.
Sir it is my desire that you highlight this (our plight) on your program or your newspapers.
