Guyana enjoyed moderate successes when a group of martial arts practitioners out of the Guyana Harpy Eagles Martial Arts Academy participated in the Taekajudo Martial Arts Karate Championships in Trinidad and Tobago on July 5-6 last.
Ishmael Wilson finished in the first place grappling in the 10-12yrs category (male) as well as 3rd in sparring. Zoann Shuman competed in the 10-12yrs category (female) and placed 2nd and 3rd in grappling and sparring respectively. Revaldo O’Selmo competed in the male 13-15 years group and finished with a gold medal in weapons

Roberto Gonputh won gold in the 13-15yrs male category in sparring but had to settle for 2nd place in the kata, while Sensei Paul Ignatius placed second in weapons kata and 3rd in sparring. Two other practitioners of similar rank as Ignatius also performed credibly; Trevor Wilson finished first in sparring in the male 18-34yrs age group, while Troy Bobb emulated in the 35 years and over kata and kata/weapons categories.
The practitioners returned to Guyana over the past weekend and Sensei Bobb said that he was pleased with the performances. He also extended appreciation to several individuals and entities that supported and made the trip a success.
Among them are director of Youth and Sports, Neil Kumar, officials of the National Democratic Council in Beterverwagting, Marland of the same village and Superintendent of Police, Paul Williams.
