Dear Editor,
I note with keen interest that the editor of Kaieteur News, Mr. Adam Harris, was recently charged and fined for contempt of court. However, I recall that a few months ago the entire committee of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) including Anand Sanasie, Raj Singh and Drubahadur was charged for contempt of court.
Attorney General Mohabir Anil Nandlall has confirmed that they were all charged for contempt and that he was awaiting a date for their court appearance.
No date has been fixed so far and these persons charged for contempt are yet to face the court and they remain in charge of Guyana Cricket while Mr. Harris had his matter dealt with expeditiously. Letter writers and columnists frequently complain about the strange dispensation of justice in Guyana. The above, in my opinion, is a good example of the vagaries of the court.
George Orwell’s Animal Farm suggested that all men are not really equal.
Apart from the contempt charge, Anand Sanasie was also charged for perjury, another serious charge. Some years ago he was charged for treason, an extremely serious charge, and further he escaped from lawful custody. This is now the very Sanasie who is representing our dear Guyana at the West Indies Cricket Board. How do the Government, the Opposition and indeed all Guyanese feel about this dubious representation of someone who has not even played cricket at any level and knows nothing of the game.
Meanwhile, Raj Singh who audaciously submitted forged and misleading documents to Parliament has not been charged to date. This is very alarming as Raj Singh’s action strikes at the very core integrity of Parliament. I am advised that Raj Singh has not reported to the police as requested nor has he given a statement. He resides in Apopka, Florida, USA where he has apparently found sanctuary.
