The Guyana Squash Association in collaboration with its number one corporate sponsor Digicel will hold the Digicel Senior National Squash Championships at the Georgetown Club Courts from today, July 10 to 14, starting from 6:00pm on all days and 11:00am on Sunday.
Several of the leading squash players in Guyana will be participating in these championships. Defending Champions are Alex Arjoon in the Men’s Division and Nicolette Fernandes in the Women’s departments.
Nicolette Fernandes will once again be playing in both of the categories as she seeks to gain valuable match practice.
Other notable players who will be involved in the tournament are Jason- Ray Khalil, Regan Pollard, Nyron Joseph, Ben Mekdeci, Steven Xavier, Raphael DeGroot and Deje Dias among the men and Ashley Khalil, Ashley DeGroot, Mary Fung A Fat, Victoria Arjoon, Kathy Shuffler, Taylor Fernandes, and Akeila and Larissa Wiltshire among the women.
The players are all looking forward to this tournament and to play on the two recently refurbished courts at the Georgetown Club facility.
The leading junior players are in their final weeks of preparation for the Caribbean Junior Squash Championships which will be held in Trinidad & Tobago from July 22 – 28, while the Senior Caribbean Squash Championships will be held right here in Guyana from August 11 – 17.
