Christianburg/Wismar Secondary Schools’ (CWSS) forward, Travin Dryden drained most of the top awards in the 2013 National Schools’ Basketball Festival (NSBF) that concluded at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall Sunday night.
Dryden, who along with his CWSS team lost to Kwakwani Secondary in a tense semi-final, won the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament award. Dryden also took home the prizes for Most Assists, Most Rebounds and Best Scorer in the Under-20 category.
Marian Academy’s Dominic Vincente, who scored the winning points for the school in crunch-time Sunday night, copped the Best Defence and Most Steals prizes. Marian Academy defeated Kwakwani 54-53 to win their first NSBF U-20 title.
In the Under-17 category, it was Neil Wills of New Amsterdam Multilateral, who were runners-up to Kwakwani, who got the Most Valuable Player of the tournament award. Neil Wills for his prolific shot-blocking ability also got the Best Defence award.
St. Roses High School’s Patrice Agrippa got the nod for Most Assists while Judah Stephney was awarded Most Steals; St Roses Nathan Howell got the Best Scorer and Individual Sportsmanship awards while Marian Academy got the Team Sportsmanship prize.
New Amsterdam Multi won the Best Emerging Team prize and their coach, Willon Cameron got the Coach of the Year award. Marian Academy won Best Dressed Team and Best Fan Support as their senior player, Tequain Vieira won the Senior Classman award. Kwakwani’s Shafiek Thomas took home the Sixth Man prize.
