Dear Editor,
A column in the July 9, 2013 edition of the Kaieteur News by one of the Peeping Toms caught my attention, not for its profundity though.
The commentator dedicated his/her column to a recent press statement by a party, the WPA, which the column described as a “spent force.” Peeping Tom said the recent intervention by the WPA is political entertainment.
The irony is that the real joke is on the Tom who spent an entire column on a spent force and a joke. This Tom belongs to a dedicated group in Guyana which has since June 1980 declared the WPA dead. If 33 years later that group is still doing so, it means that ether the WPA keeps rising from the deadand/or these people have some mortal fear of a living WPA.
Whatever the truth is, let me tell a party secret: We, the WPA, love it when we speak, even from the grave, we move these cynics to put on their battle gowns and start behaving crazy.
The WPA lives, not only because the cause of justice and liberty lives, but because cynics like Tom dread the thought that we are alive. If they want to kill us off, then perhaps we are standing in their way or disturbing them. If we are not dying off, then perhaps the country still finds us useful.
Premature death of national institutions was dealt with by the Mighty Sparrow in one of his classics: “Sparrow Dead.” Take a listen Tom and then write another column.
