Guyana Industrial Training Centre (GITC) produced a stunning comeback to eliminate Dolphin Secondary after defeating them 6-3 in their Georgetown Zone quarterfinal encounter as action in the Digicel Nationwide Schools Football Championship continued yesterday, at the Police Sports Club (PSC) Ground, Eve Leary.
Jamal McPherson opened the scoring for the Woolford Avenue side in the second minute of play when he lobbed a shot over the goalkeeper’s head from about 30 yards out.
Dolphin, however, levelled the proceedings in the 11th minute through Joshua Perreira, who struck a right footed shot into the bottom left hand corner.
Lavar Baptiste gave Dolphin the lead five minutes later, courtesy of a brilliant lob from the left wing that was delivered from about 25 yards out.
Dolphin increased their lead to two goals compliments of a Toquan Clarke penalty conversion in the 26th minute following an infringement in the foul area.
Dynamic forward Randy Layne reduced the deficit to one goal from a well taken 40-yard free kick from the left side of the field that nestled perfectly into the top right hand corner of the net.
The break came with Dolphin clinging to a slim 3-2 advantage.
Parity was restored in the match when Layne completed his brace in the 48th minute from a curling corner kick that eluded everyone and landed in the goal.
GITC took the lead in the 61st minute through a Jamal Williams header from another right sided corner kick.
Williams completed his brace in the 84th minute, compliments of right footed strike after being left unmarked in the six yard area following a fumble by the opposition’s goalkeeper following a cross from the right flank.
Poor goalkeeping ended the fixture as Colwyn Daniels engraved his name on the scorer’s sheet with an 89th minute 50-yard effort that laughably bounced over the Dolphin shot stopper.
Over at the Skeldon Community Centre ground in Berbice, Orealla Secondary through second half strikes from Jermaine Biswane, Kelvin Dick, Evan Herman and Winston Peneux in the 70th, 78th, 80th and 86th minutes respectively overcame Berbice Educational Institute (BEI) 4-2.
Rolex Archibald and Jason Drake were on target for the losers in the 25th and 31st minutes respectively.
