More than 50 exuberant children, all well attired, convened at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue and will be tutored in the intricacies of lawn tennis when the curtains went up on the 10th edition of the Guyana Tennis Association/P&P Insurance Brokers Annual Tennis Camp at that venue yesterday morning.
Several stakeholders attended the ceremony including Managing Director (P&P Insurance Brokers), Bishwa Panday, President of the GTA, Ramesh Seebarran, 1st Vice President, Grace McCalman and level 2 Coach, Shelly Daly Ramdyhan. Leyland Leacock will support Ms Ramdyhan in the coaching department.
Mr. Panday wished the young racquet wielders well and said that his organization was extremely delighted to once again extend corporate assistance. “P&P Insurance Brokers has been involved with the GTA for some 9 years and we are once again happy to support their programme,” he said.
The P&P executive said that he is happy with the progress made by the organizers and was delighted with the exposure procured by aspiring tennis players.
“It is an established fact that sporting activities are complimentary to the development of young individuals and help in the cultivation of a healthy lifestyle and it gives me satisfaction and pleasure, especially when I note the many young and eager faces here today, all willing to enjoy themselves and to learn and develop a new sport,” said Mr. Panday.
Mr. Seebarran humbly accepted the sponsorship package and thanked his benefactor. “It is not easy obtaining corporate support and we are indeed grateful for it,” he said. The GTA President encouraged participants to soak up as much information as possible in preparation for future duties in their respective clubs.
At the end of the coaching sessions the youngsters will engage in a mini tournament where they will be able to show off their newly acquired skills. Organizers will also issue souvenirs and memorabilia.
