Cycling is set for the Ancient County of Berbice today for the second annual Island Mist Water Road Race sponsored by the Guyana Beverage Company and organised by the Flying Aces Cycling Club.
The inaugural 40-mile event was held for members of the Flying Aces Cycling only but the miles have now increased while the organisers have opened up the event to all riders in Guyana.
The race will pedal off from the Beverage Company, Berbice outlet at Palmyra at 14:00hrs and journey to the No. 51 Police Station before returning to the place of origin.
The event is anticipated to be keenly contested since it will attract the top riders of the country.
Prize monies have been increased and defending champion Dwight Holder will be hard pressed to retain his title.
The launching ceremony which was held one week ago at the company’s office at Palmyra, was attended by General Manager Mr. Robert Selman who was accompanied by Tampico Regional Brand Manager Alanna Ramjattan and American Classic Regional Brand Manager, Christine Kellawan, both of Trinidad.
Prizes will be awarded to the first eight finishers, the first three juniors, females and club members to complete the distance. There will also be 10 sprint prizes at stake.
Mr. Selman along with other senior officials of the beverage company are expected to be on hand today to start the race and distribute the prizes.
