An exhibition of Indian Cultural items is currently ongoing at the Sophia Exhibition in Georgetown. The event is titled the Festival of India, the fifth of its kind to be hosted here in Guyana by the Indo Global Chamber of Commerce (IGCC).
The first ‘Festival of India’ exhibition was held annually from 2004 to 2007, but then it suddenly came to a halt. It has returned now after five years. The festival started about a week ago, and will
continue until July 3.
The creations on display include clothing, footwear, Indian delicacies, furniture, artwork, jewellery, and cosmetics.
The body’s President, Ajay Singh, explained that the purpose of the event is to strengthen business relations between Guyana and India.
In addition to the items on display, Singh said that a famous astrologer will also be present to predict peoples’ future and match their horoscopes. His name is Dr. Panday, and according to Singh “he is not bogus”. The man has obtained a doctorate in astrology, a field in which he has also become a professor.
For those who do not know of the Indo Global Chamber of Commerce, it is a non-profit commerce and trade management organisation aimed at creating and sustaining environments for the growth in the area of trade and commerce in India.
It was founded in 2004, and has a fixed membership of over 2000 medium and small manufacturers from the private and public sectors. Over 5000 small traders and manufacturers from 20 national and regional associations have been listed as indirect members.
