After the long and arduous out of season period which was dogged by postponements and cancellations due mainly to the inclement weather, horses and owners are gearing up again for a restart of the season.
With two of Guyana’s leading racing clubs, the Ryan Crawford Memorial Turf Club and Sports Facilities (RCMTC&SF) of Alness Corentyne Berbice and the Port Mourant Turf Club (PMTC) also of Corentyne Berbice are banding together to stage the opening act for the second half of the 2013 horse racing season. With such a long layoff all the top horses and stables are expected to be in top shape and will be rearing to go for the mega meet. As such entries have started to roll in at a very fast rate with most of the top stables getting into top gear for the big day.
Among the stables putting their animals through its paces are -The Shariff Racing stable, Habibulla, Jumbo Jet, Colin Elcock’s Delmur and P&P Syndicate Racing stable, Jagdeo Racing stable, Asrafalli racing stables, Simple Royal and Senior Council Marcel Crawford Racing stable, Night Eyes, Mahaicony, Jagroop/ Jagmohan, Bacchus, Sukdeo and Singh racing stables among others.
A number of sponsors have also indicated their willingness to be on board including Trophy Stall of Bourda Market and Banks DIH Limited, Omai Transportation and Delmur Shipping Company.
Nine events will be contested with over $6M up for grabs in cash, trophies and other incentives.
The lists of events are the B and lower 1200M event with a first prize of $700,000 and trophy out of a total purse of over $1.5M.
There will be a race for 3-yr old Guyana and West Indies Bred horses, for a winning take of $350,000 over 1300M. The E and lower 1300M sprint will have a first prize of $400,000.
The event for Two Year old Guyana and West Indies Bred Horse will have a winner’s purse of $300,000 over 1000M.
The horses running in the G1 and lower class race will have an opportunity to race away with a first prize of $300,000 over 1300M. The G3 and lower even will see the animals racing for a $300,000 winners money over 1200M.
Two-year old Guyana Bred horses will be competing for a $220,000 first prize over 1000M.
The ‘I’ and lower race will be a 1200M affair with a first prize of $200,000. The J and K class contest will fetch a winning prize of $150,000 over 1200M.
Outstanding individual performers including top Jockey, trainer and stable will be presented with accolades compliments of the Trophy Stall, Bourda Market and the organisers. The race will be run under the rules of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority (GHRA).
