A Goed Fortuin, West Bank Demerara family of seven can consider themselves fortunate to have escaped unhurt after their house, located in Barclay Street, collapsed at around 18:30 hrs yesterday.
The property is occupied by calypsonian Eze Baird, who said that he was not at home when the mishap occurred. Baird is employed as a security guard.
Kaieteur News was told that while no one was injured, most of the family furniture, kitchen ware and other valuables were destroyed when the house fell off its beams.
Mr. Baird told Kaieteur News that the family has been occupying the house for decades.
The occupants were up to late last night trying to salvage their belongings and seek alternative shelter.
