National and Caribbean powerlifting champion, Berbice based Vijai Rahim has come in for timely assistance ahead of next week’s Pan American and Caribbean Powerlifting championships in the USA from the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTY&SC) Cricket teams.
Yesterday, the entity made a financial contribution Rahim and this was done collectively by the Rose Hall Town Farfan & Mendes Under-15, Bakewell Under-17 and Second Division Teams, Pepsi Under-19 and Intermediate, Gizmos & Gadgets Under-21 and First Division and Metro Female teams.
RHTY&SC’s Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster presented the cheque of an undisclosed amount to Rahim while hailing the achievements of Rahim at the national and regional levels.
Foster said that the lad from the Ancient County is a sporting hero and positive role model for youths. The donation was made to ensure the athlete’s attendance at the 14th Pan American and 7th Caribbean Powerlifting Championships slated for July 1 – 7, 2013 in Orlando, Florida.
The club’s cricket teams, Foster stated, were pleased to assist Rahim as they wanted every sportsperson in Berbice to fulfill their potential and most importantly to be positive role models to youths as the club strives to promote the No to Drugs and Yes to Education Message.
Foster advised Rahim to always be disciplined and committed while at the same time to remain grounded to his roots.
Success, the Secretary/CEO stated does tend to change the personality of some sportsmen and this causes them to lose focus. He wished Rahim all success at the championships and expressed confidence that he would make Berbice and Guyana proud by winning his category.
Foster also committed the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club to assist Rahim in the future as it has done on the past once he remains discipline and focus.
Rahim expressed gratitude to the cricket teams of the club and pledged that he would be successful and make everyone proud of him. He said the competitions would be of the highest standard and promised to give it his best shot.
