Police appear to be no closer to finding how Guyana Defence Force Lance Corporal Akini Sampson ended up with a fractured skull in a locked house.
Investigators had been focusing on a woman who was said to be the slain soldier’s lover, after receiving reports that Sampson and the woman’s husband had at least three recent altercations over her.
But they were forced to release her from custody on Thursday after finding nothing to link her to his death. Kaieteur News understands that the woman denied being married and police have failed to locate the alleged husband.
Some of Sampson’s relatives had claimed that the woman was seen entering his house last week Wednesday, which is the last day that he was seen alive.
Sampson was found lying face-down in his bed around 01:00 hrs last week Friday. A post mortem revealed that he had been struck twice in the head and had suffered a fractured skull. Death was due to shock and haemorrhage.
Investigators believe that he knew his killer and may have let the individual in.
