The newly formed Canje Knights basketball team of East Canje, playing in their first senior basketball competition, after suffering a loss in their opening game in the ongoing Mackeson Top Six first division Basketball tournament organised by the Berbice Basket Ball Association (BBA), seemed to have found their range, recording their second successive win.
Playing against Rose Hall Town Jammers, the Knights had no problem in blowing away their opponents 69-44 in game five of the competition which is being played at the Vryman’s Erven Basketball Court in New Amsterdam.
In their first game of the competition the Jammers were outdone by the sharp and ready Knights who scored seven points before the Jammers could open their account.
However the Jammers kept fighting, but the roving Knights kept a steady lead and by half time were breezing away at 25-18. By the third quarter the lead had stretch to 42-32. The Knights stepped up the pressure in the final segment and merciless mauled the hapless Jammers into submission for the 69-44 blowout.
Kevin Emanuel led the way with a game high 19 points. He was well supported by National player Carlos Crandon with 18 points including the up and coming Steve Roopnarine scored 9.
For Rose Hall Jammers, Perry Cort bucketed 13 points with Eman Wiggins scoring 11.
In the points standing, Smithfield Rockers and Canje Knights are both on four points. Smythfield have played two games with Knights three. New Amsterdam Warriors have two points from two games, Fyrish none from two and Rose Hall none from one. (Samuel Whyte)
