Canje Knights returned to the basketball court with a vengeance as they destroyed the Fyrish Black Sharks 61-42 to record their first win when play continued in the Berbice Basketball Association (BBA) First Division Top Six Mackeson Basketball tournament being played at the Vryman’s Erven Basketball Court in New Amsterdam.
The Knights took their time to sort themselves out and after a slow start, which saw both teams scoring only 7 points in the first quarter, the teams picked up pace with Knights slightly ahead by one points with the score reading 17-16 in their favour.
After the resumption the Knights changed gear and took charge of proceedings, romping home for their easy win. National player Carlos Crandon led the way for the Knights with a game high of 13 points with admirable support coming from Kevin Emanuel with 12 points.
Linden Joseph was the top scorer for the Black Sharks with 11points with Rayel Franklyn contributing 10.
The game was the fourth in the competition which is being sponsored by Beverage giants Ansa McAl Guyana Limited.
Smithfield Rockers have so far played unbeaten with four points from two games followed by New Amsterdam Warriors and the Canje Knights with two points each from two games. The Sharks are winless after two games. The other two teams in the competition are Rose Hall Town Jammers and Prisons.
The competition continues today with the Canje Knights looking to continue their winning ways when they oppose Rose Hall Town, who will be taking to the court for their first match.
