New Amsterdam Warriors, smarting from their last defeat on the Basketball court, prepared themselves for war as they returned with a vengeance to take the venomous Fyrish Black Sharks to task before destroying them 78-58 when play continued in the Berbice Basketball Association (BBA) first division Top Six Mackeson tournament at the Vryman’s Erven Court in New Amsterdam.
The game was the third in the competition which is being sponsored by Beverage giants Ansa McAl Guyana Limited.
The Black Sharks were out fast even as the Warriors took some time to work out their strategies. Encircling their prey early, the Sharks went on an early rampage dumping some early baskets as they dominated the first quarter to lead 18-7.
By the second segment the Warriors were battle ready and came out battling as they went on a dominating run and closed the gap considerably on the Sharks as that segment ended 35-33.
From then on it was all Warriors as they entrapped the Sharks who had nowhere to go.
The Warriors raced away to 17 points lead, 60-43. It was much the same scenario in the final segment as the Warriors extend their lead by 20 points for the 78-58 final score.
Martin Witherspoon had a game high 23 points with Randy Richardson supporting well on 22 and the veteran Kirk Fraser chipping in with 11.
Linden Joseph and Jawell Fraser scored 14 points each for the Black Sharks. (Samuel Whyte)
