– NDC distributing materials
Residents of Kaneville, East Bank Demerara are being urged by the Grove/ Diamond Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC) to visit the Diamond Secondary School today to collect material to repair their roads.
Persons who can provide transportation and self-help will be given crusher run, stones and tar to repair their streets. The focus will be on Kaneville, Diamond New Scheme and Cinema Street.
Recently, residents in Kaneville were complaining about the deplorable condition of their roads. They claimed that they have been neglected by the relevant authorities and were being forced into using the roads which vehicles struggle to transverse.
Yesterday, a source from the council told Kaieteur News that they don’t have the necessary equipment to repair the roads hence they are providing residents with the materials necessary to repair the little potholes.
“We have money but we are using it to buy a mini excavator, once we get it we will start repairing the potholes. The excavator is in the bidding process right now,” the source said.
He explained if they use the money the NDC managed to collect in taxes for this year, to repair the potholes, the money will finish and because the roads in Kaneville are in such a bad state, it wouldn’t make a difference.
“The money will quickly finish and it won’t make a difference on the road so we will instead use the money to buy the excavator which we can continuously use to manage the roads,” the source revealed.
The first set of materials will be distributed today at the Diamond Secondary School.
