The Flying Ace Cycle Club (FACC) of Berbice has taken the tough decision to ban one of its season cyclists for acts of indiscipline. The cyclist being punished is Ray Millington who has been suspended for three months. Millington’s punishment was slapped on him for indiscipline behaviour and disobeying the club rules and refusing to ride in the club uniform on a number of occasions. He was also sanctioned by the Guyana Cycling Federation (GCF) for the same offence and for lying to the officials.
Millington, who has been riding for sometime knows that cyclists must participate in club colours whenever they are riding competitively. He was told and reminded on a number of occasions to don the club colours, but refused. On the last three occasions he rode, he refused to wear the club uniform during the last three stage race, once in a race around the seawall band stand and another in the national park.
The GCF sanction was for the same offence and for lying to the officials. When confronted by the GFC official about his club colours, he told them he had none. A follow up investigation proved he was lying. He was fined $1,000.
Cycling coach Randolph Roberts told the media that Millington was warned on a number of occasions about his actions, but he continued to flout the rules although he is well aware that what he was doing was against the rules. Roberts stated that at an event in Georgetown after Millington told officials that he hadn’t any uniform, he personally gave him one in the presence of another cyclist. However, before the race started he disposed of it and rode in his own outfit.
Roberts stated that it is not the first time that the cyclist has been involved in acts of indiscipline and try to besmirch the reputation of the club.
The three months ban commenced from June 1st. and will run until August 31st 2013.
He will not be allowed to participate in Banks DIH Aqua water 60 miles event today or any event sanction by the GFC in Guyana for the next three months. According to Roberts the GCF has been informed of the sanction.
