DCB inter Association U-17 tourney…Seeraj, Yadram, Renee slam half centuries as East Coast, West Demerara record wins

East Coast and West Demerara recorded victories when play in the Demerara Cricket Board Inter Association U-17 50-over tournament continued yesterday with two matches.
At Police Sports Club ground Eve Leary, East Coast earned a hard fought victory over East Bank, winning the game by 5 wickets. East Bank won the toss and elected to bat on a flat track and posted 177-9 off their allocation of 50 overs. Vanyus Kissoon 29 (4×4) and Dextroy Williams 28 (4×4) steadied their batting somewhat at the top of the order as they looked set for a huge total.

brought East Coast back into the game with consistent bowling. But, Navindra Seeraj rallied his team to a respectable total with courageous batting down the order. He was left unbeaten on 51 which included five fours and two sixes.
Bhaskar Yadram and Andy Dowlatram got East Coast off to a solid start before the latter was run out for 12. Yadram batted sensibly hitting three fours and one six in a top score of 66, and along with Vishwanauth Ramlakhan 29 with two fours and Steven Mangal 28 (2×4) saw their team home in 45.4 overs despite a late burst by leg spinner Irshad Ali who claimed 3 wickets, but could have proved more dangerous if he was used wisely by his skipper; East Coast ended on 179-5.
At Everest, West Demerara defeated Georgetown by 22 runs. West Demerara took first strike and were off to a fine start with Ronaldo Renee and Navindra Persaud adding 36 for the opening stand before Persaud was bowled by Shamar Graham for 09. West Demerara then lost Travis Persaud who had his furniture disturbed by Tevin Imlach for 06 at 57 before Renee and Chetnarine Pooran (21) took the score to 120 with composed batting.
But when Pooran was caught and bowled by Graham, the rest of the middle order struggled to build on the foundation laid as the host bowling led by Graham with 4-17, restricted West Coast to 149-6 in 50 overs.
Georgetown started badly losing the wickets of Joshua Ram without scoring at 4. Tevin Imlach and Hardat Singh carried to score to 28 before Singh departed in similar fashion for 19. Imlach and skipper Sherfene Rutherford added 34 for the third wicket to steady the chase somewhat before Imlach was caught off Keshram Seehadan for 11.
Apart from Rutherford who made 42 (4×4) and Shemar De Souza 18 (1×6) the rest of the batting found the going tough and Georgetown were skittled for 127 in 47 overs. Daniel Basdeo was the pick of the bowlers with 2-23, while Seehadan took 2-26. Travis Persaud, Ricardo Chrisanand and Narendra Persaud had 1 each.
The competition continues today with West Demerara facing East Coast at Everest.
