Surajpaul Ramnauth, called “Bush”, 26, of Lot 31 Goed Bananen Land, East Canje, Berbice, was on Friday sentenced to three years in jail by Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo after she found him guilty at the Reliance Magistrate’s court on a charge of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
The man had 30 grams of cannabis sativa at his home on February 26, last. He was also fined $10,000, or an alternative of six weeks imprisonment.
According to prosecutor, Sergeant Phillip Sheriff, Ramnauth, told the court that he lives alone. He said that he was at home when the police after receiving certain information descended on the man’s premises.
They conducted a search and unearthed a plastic bag with leaves, seeds, and stems of the prohibited plant marijuana.
Ramnauth was arrested and taken into custody.
