President of the Guyana Cricket Umpires Council (GCUC) Dhieranidranauth Somwaru heads a list of local umpires that will be attending the West Indies Cricket Umpires Council (WICUA) convention which starts on June 28 in Trinidad and Tobago.
In an invited comment Somwaru told Kaieteur Sport that it is a pleasure to attend the convention where they will also observe the 50th anniversary of the WICUA. He said that so far 13 members have confirmed their participation and for the first time Guyana will be represented by such a large contingent.
Among the umpires that have confirmed their participation so far are Somwaru, Zabeer Zakier, Eddie Nicholls, Arleigh Rutherford, Matthew Kissoon, Drepaul George, Hortence Isaacs, Delvin Austin, Asif Japal, Safil Khan, Clement Brusche and Dawchand Nagassar.
Among the items listed on the agenda for the convention are elections of office bearers, umpires fees, playing conditions and issues affecting umpires in the Caribbean. Interested persons who are willing to assist the GCUC in this venture can contact Bro Nicholls on 680-9581 or Zakier on 696-3811.
