The Bank of Nova Scotia, New Amsterdam recently donated over $800,000 to ten organizations in the Berbice area.
Cheques were presented to the Alpha Children’s Home, New Amsterdam Special Needs School, Cancer Society Berbice Chapter, Salvation Army, Canje Knights football group, Overwinning, Edinburgh and New Amsterdam Primaries, Camal International Home for the Abused and Battered Women and Comforting Hearts NGO Reading Programme.
Branch Manager, Mr. Vibert Jones believes that the gesture “is a special responsibility that we give back to the community in which we operate and this is exactly what we are trying to do—it is a true demonstration of what we are trying to achieve…in assisting the less fortunate in a very tangible way.”
He noted that the bank would like to continue this initiative “and we want to hear from you—let us know how we can help you, so we can pitch in.”
Retail Administration Clerk, Renee Rama, noted that the bank itself has over the past years, been promoting and doing community service.
“We have enlightened people that we are here. We are not just a bank but to serve the community.”
Rama added that the donation is part of a reward to the community, “for all the good works that Scotia Bank has been doing and we want to encourage you to support us in whatever way you can.”
She urged the organizations to give the bank some sort of feedback on how they have used the donation.
