– injured inmate released from hospital
Thirty-two-year-old Stravo Evans who was allegedly badly beaten by three prison officers while he was taking a shower, has since been released from hospital nursing a number of injuries.
His sister, Roena Evans, said that her brother was released from hospital on Friday and has returned to the Camp Street facility. Evans alleged that based on her brother’s hospital report, his hands, right leg and three of his fingers were broken.
Evans added that her brother related to her that the officers who allegedly did the beating had a “natural problem” with him and made previous threats before the attack.
She added that her mother contacted the Director of Prisons Dale Erskine and was told that a report on the issue is expected on Thursday.
However, when contacted, Erskine told this publication that he was out of the country and has not yet received any word yet from the officer in charge about the issue.
Evans has been incarcerated since 2009 on a murder charge. Evans, called “Mankind,” was allegedly beaten on Wednesday by three prison officers while he was taking a shower. According to reports, Evans was awakened by an officer who related to him that he had 30 minutes to bathe, shave or any other “washing”.
After this instruction, Evans reportedly then went into the bathroom and requested extra time which was granted to him by an officer named ‘Eliot’. It is claimed that while he was in the bathroom, another officer by the name of ‘Mathews’ accompanied by two others, began to beat him with batons.
According to this report, the beaten man managed to escape and seek refuge in the office of the Chief Officer where he then placed a chair to block the door to keep out his tormentors. That failed.
