The Guyana Darts Association (GDA) efforts to participate in the upcoming World Darts Federation (WDF) tournament to be held in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada, in early October of this year, were unsuccessful.
After a series of back and forth correspondence, the GDA was referred to the WDF rules of eligibility where it states that in the 12 Months period leading up to the tournament date the players must have participated in at least 2 WDF sanctioned International Tournaments.
The GDA had posted that financial and other constraints such as acquiring visas, impacted on the players’ ability to participate in International Darts tournament.
The Association was reminded that the rules are the rules and as a result the GDA has endeavoured to pursue a plan of action to ensure their participation in the next World tournament which is expected to be held in 2015.
However, the planned trials in anticipation of their participation, which were set for Sunday last at the CCWU Sports Club, did go ahead even though an announcement was made to the players that the GDA was not eligible to participate in the international, this year. It was felt that the trials would give an assessment of the talent level.
The games played were using the round-robin format with two games per match and one point awarded for each game won. The players participating were; Sudesh Fitzgerald, Anthony Bissoondyal, Lallchan Rambarose, Sherwin Greene, Colin France, K. Bissoondyal and Nicholas Seetaram.
The top four players emerging, which would have been the team for the WDF Tournament, were Greene with 8 points; Anthony Bisoondyal with 8 points; Fitzgerald with seven points; and France with six points.
Seetaram recorded the maximum throw of 180 points, while France recorded the fastest game finishing in 14 darts. There were also two 17 darts finishes and two 18 darts finishes. A total of 97 hundreds were thrown in the 42 the games played which were indeed of International Standards and were supervised by Grantley Culbard and Rayman Williams. (Zaheer Mohamed)
