The army officer involved in the accident last Saturday that left two women injured has refuted their claims. The man (name withheld) sought to make clear his side of the story. He said that the women had been speeding when accident occurred.
“I was not speeding; they approached the junction without caution… I was going at 15 kilometres per hour. My car was barely damaged. They were going at such a rate that they slammed into the fence at Dolphin Secondary School and their airbag popped.”
The army officer said following the accident, one of the women had been verbally abusive him.
“One of the women emerged from the vehicle and began to verbally abuse me; I did not say a word.”
The man said the woman was even abusive to him in the presence of police ranks.
He expressed displeasure with the manner in which the incident had been reported, and stated that he had chosen to remain silent, primarily because it had been agreed upon that the matter would be dealt with in court, but also due to the fact that he was cognizant of the army’s code of conduct.
Twenty-five-year-old Anansa Abbensetts and her mother claimed to have suffered severe injuries following a smash-up that occurred on Saturday afternoon, in the vicinity of Broad and Charles Streets, Georgetown.
The women were heading east along Broad Street, approaching Charles Street.
They claimed that a black Rav4, driven by the officer failed to stop at the intersection, resulting in the collision.
A report was subsequently lodged at the Ruimveldt Police Station.
The matter will likely to be addressed in court soon.
