William Shawn Lee, 39, of 167 Charlotte Street, Georgetown was on Monday sentenced to three years in jail and fined a total of $135,000 by Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo when he appeared before her at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s court and pleaded guilty to the charge of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
According to Prosecutor Sergeant Phillip Sheriff, the dreadlock man on Sunday encountered the police on mobile patrol along Strand, New Amsterdam.
When the police saw Lee who was in the front seat of motor car and acting in a suspicious manner they stopped the car and searched it. They found what appeared to be leaves, seeds and stems of the marijuana plant wrapped in a black plastic bag and strapped between his legs.
He was arrested and taken into custody. All told he had 150 grams of cannabis.
In court the man the man said that he did not wish to say anything and that he knew that the offence carried a jail term.
