Unbeaten on the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Junior Circuit this year, having won the Junior Boys’ Singles title in both Sweden and Italy, Chinese Taipei’s, Lee Chia-Sheng duly booked his place in the Main Draw of the Men’s Singles event at the LIEBHERR World Championships in Paris.
On the evening of yesterday, he posted a five games win over Ukraine’s Yevhen Pryshchepa, 11-7, 12-14, 11-3, 11-8 and 11-6.
The 17-year-old, who leads the ITTF Junior Circuit Boys’ Standings, proved the superior player in the art of service and first attack; overall he was the quicker to seize the initiative and acknowledged the fact that competing on the ITTF Junior Circuit had added to his education.
“Undoubtedly, the ITTF Junior Circuit gives an opportunity to compete against many different players”, said Lee Chia-Sheng. “It has certainly helped my confidence grow,” he added.
Confidence and that factor were crucial in the contest against Yevhen Pryshchepa; the second game slipped away, but Lee Chia-Sheng maintained his self-belief, he remained calm and focused.
There were no histrionics; rarely was he forced away from the table; the left hander’s forehand top spin proved effective time and again, the angles from the backhand crucial in determining the end result. (ITTF.com)
