Occupants of Lot 40 Eping Avenue, Bel Air Park, are currently trying to ascertain their losses after a mysterious fire gutted the entire interior of their home shortly after midnight on Tuesday. Kaieteur News understands that a Brazilian couple was occupying the building for the past three years.
According to reports, the flames began in the ceiling of one of the rooms and destroyed the roof of the two storey building before spreading to other areas of the house.
The couple was reportedly asleep when the fire started. They became aware after they awoke to check on their infant daughter, who had the flu.
Although the origin of the blaze is yet to be determined, the occupants who were asleep at the time are fortunate that an alarm was raised.
Neighbours too were unaware of the occurrence on Tuesday night. The fire completely destroyed the kitchen, the family area, a guest bedroom and the nursery of the house. The occupants luckily escaped without any injuries.
According to the male occupant, his chief concern is that he had a guest in his home at the time. According to the man, the incident was like a bad dream.
He claimed the fire may have started in the middle room, which was converted into a nursery.
He opened the door and the flames leapt out at him, singeing the hair on his body. He retreated.
The guest whom he thought was in danger called the Guyana Fire Service. The fire service arrived some time later and quenched the inferno before it destroyed the entire building.
