Lindeners are calling for at least two mobile police units to constantly patrol the streets of the Town, in light of the recent upsurge of criminal activity, including burglaries on private households and business places.
The latest was an armed robbery committed at Tudor’s Business Enterprise at One Mile, Wismar.
Informed sources said that the robbery occurred about 20:00 hours on Tuesday. The proprietor of the business, Colin Tudor, was reportedly robbed of about $30,000 in cash, a quantity of phone cards and his mobile phones.
According to reports, the bandits were unmasked, and invaded the business place even though there were several persons in the vicinity. After committing the robbery they reportedly fled the scene while firing shots in the air.
Police ranks, who persons said, arrived soon after, were unable to apprehend anyone.
“The police definitely got to do something about this upsurge in criminal activity in this place. They can’t just be sitting in office, they have to patrol the streets, because these criminals brazen; they robbing people in full view of others.
“Only a couple days ago another business get rob right on this stretch. And the community policing groups ain’t making too much sense, because these bandits attacking people in the day or early in the evenings , while they (community policing groups) going out in the nights,” a concerned resident pointed out.
“We need more police out in the streets, and we need them to catch these criminals, because the next thing you gon hear is that people gon be taking the law in the own hands, like wha happen in Berbice and Sophia”, another angry resident declared. Colin Tudor was however in high praise of the police, who he said responded promptly, ‘and in their numbers’.
According to Tudor he was accosted by two men who demanded his jewellery, cellphones, phone cards and cash.
The businessman said that he did not resist as the men were armed and were brandishing their guns menacingly, while a third bandit remained outside of the business place keeping guard. He too, was reportedly armed.
