The Athletics Association of Guyana observed the International Association of Athletics Federation world Athletics day yesterday at the Police Sports Club ground Eve Leary with a number of exciting events.

The proceedings got underway with the 1000 meters Female U-16 which was won by Cassey George of Christianburg Wismar Secondary School (CWSS) in a time of 3minutes 18:24 seconds. Casie Kirton (CWSS) placed second in 03:40, while Jaditha Bowman of Police came third in 4 minutes.
Orlando Adams (CWSS) took the 1000 meters male U-16 event in 2:58:34 ahead of Steffon Carew (CWSS) who finished second in 3:9:37 and Darryl Dublin of Enmore in 3:10:60.
The 800 meters male U-18 race went to Quincy Blair of Mercury Fast Laners (MFL) in 2:15:61; Deon Benjamin (CWSS) came second in 2:29:75 and Joshua Forrester (MFL) finished third in 2:34:15.
Onasha Rogers (CWSS) won the 150 meters female U-16 in 18:23; she was followed by Shanice Singh of Police in 19:41 and Kerry Sutherland (CWSS) in 20:22.
Compton Caesar (CWSS) took the 150 meters male U-16 title in 16:09 seconds while Rodwell Hughes (CWSS) grabbed second place in 17:72 and Shathel Caesar of Enmore third in 18:37.
Kevin Ramlall of Rolex Athletics Club blazed to victory in the 100 meters male U-18 in 11:65 seconds; Emanuel Sancho of Police came second in 11:94 and Dequan Cumberbatch of (MFL) third in 12:19.
The first podium spot in the 400 meters female U-18 event went to Onica Eastman of Police in 1:05:89 while Casey Kirton (CWSS) took second in 1:08:57 ahead of third place Deeneeka Tinnis (MFL) in 1:21:31.
Kerry Sutherland (CWSS) leaped 4:66 meters to win the female U-16 Long Jump. Marcia Carter (MFL) finished second with a jump of 4:48 meters and Onasha Rogers (CWSS) took third with a leap of 4:38.
Campton Caesar (CWSS) carted off the male U-16 Long Jump with a leap of 5:86 meters ahead of Daquan Liverpool of President College with 5:51 and Tremain Brown with 4:92. (Zaheer Mohamed)
