Dear Editor,
Reference is made to an article in the Kaieteur News, May 1, 2013, under the caption “Govt. still looking for contractor for Kato Hydro project”. The article infers that there was an opening of the tender for the project and that an extension was given because no suitably qualified bid had been received.
We wish to inform the public that tenders have not been opened for the Kato Project. The tender process provides for a mandatory Clarification Meeting and Site Visit for potential bidders approximately one month prior to the closing date for the bids.
A decision was taken by the Contracting Authority, the Ministry of Finance, to extend the dates for these two events to allow for greater participation in the process. This extension automatically meant that the deadline for submission of bids will be commensurately extended.
