BREAKING NEWS: ‘Bomb’ made from gas cylinder caused blast in Guysuco Scheme home
Totaram and Bhajmattie Mootoo’s killers forced them to lie on their bedroom with hands duct-tapeed behind their backs, before setting off a crude home-made bomb, constructed with a gas cylinder, in the victims’ Guysuco Scheme, East Coast Demerara home on Thursday night.
A senior fire official told Kaieteur News today that a 20-pound gas cylinder was part of a device that caused the massive explosion and subsequent fire that gutted the two-storey property.
The official said that the gas cylinder was “blown to bits.” Chief Fire Officer Marlon Gentle and his team were seen scouring the surroundings for parts of the device.
The charred bodies of 58-year-old Totaram Mootoo, called ‘Beer’, and 48-year-old Bajmattie Mootoo, called ‘Dolly’, were removed from their bedroom at around 10:00 hrs today. Because the corpses were so badly burnt, detectives were unable to immediately ascertain whether they were shot of if they died from the blast.
Some residents recalled hearing gunshots before hearing the loud explosion, which shook some nearby homes and blew a large hole in the northern bedroom wall of the concrete structure.
Police believe that the victims were slain sometime around 23:00 hrs on Thursday.
