A part-time teacher attached to the Christ Church Secondary School was struck in her head with a plank by one of her students, yesterday afternoon.
According to reports, Lonnetta Pollard, 29, was attending to a class of third formers when two male students started to “fight.” During the brawl, the Beterverwagting, East Coast Demerara woman was struck in her head.
She was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), where she was treated and sent away.
The teacher’s mother, Genevieve Justice, told Kaieteur News that she was told that her daughter was teaching when the fight started. When one of the students left the class, “she probably thought that the other student won’t come back so she turned and she started writing. Like he walk in and try to hit the other guy and he ended up hitting her.”
When Kaieteur News visited the school yesterday, no one was willing to talk. Some students said, “It’s not a big deal.” Officials from the Welfare Department are investigating the matter.
