The Berbice Cricket Board/Universal DVD T20 for First Division teams in Berbice continued last weekend with just one match possible due to heavy rains. Universal DVD/Young Warriors thrashed the newly reformed Upper Corentyne Cricket Association by 71 runs.
The host UDVD/YWCC won the toss and batted first and were led to victory, thanks mainly to a brilliant unbeaten knock, 136 (8×4 and 10×6) off 68 balls made by former Guyana middle order batsman, Gajanand Singh.
UDVD/YWCC had a bad start when Maxie DeJonge was run out for 1 in the first over after a terrible mix up with Richard Ramdeen. Singh joined Ramdeen and together they put on a healthy partnership of 70 before the latter was LBW Jameel Azad for 19. Kevin Ramdeen, the younger brother of Richard, joined Singh and they blasted the ball to all parts of the ground before Ramdeen was caught on the long on fence off the bowling of L. Roopchand for swashbuckling 46 (5×6 and 1×4). UDVD/YWCC eventually made 222 for 3 off the allotted 20 overs.
Bowling for UCCA, Latchman Roopchand and Jameel Azad took a wicket each. UCCA in reply scored runs at a rapid speed but lost wickets at regular intervals, causing a drop in the run rate.
They ended on 151 for 7 wickets when the overs expired. Latchman Roopchand top-scored with 48 not out, consisting of 4 massive sixes. Bowling for UDVD/YWCC, Kevin Ramdeen took 3 for 28 and Vishal Mohabir 2 for 26.
Summarized scores:
At the Cumberland ground, UDVD/YWCC won the toss, batted first and scored 222 for 3 off 20 overs, Gajanand Singh 136no, Kevin Ramdeen 46. UCCA in reply, 151 for 7. L. Roopchand 48no, Nazim Mohamed 23 and T. Ramdass 22. Bowling for UDVD/YWCC, K. Ramdeen 3 for 28 and V. Mahabir 2 for 26.
