Family members of a 22-year-old dance instructor are praying for the safe return of their son, Joseph Natialel Shivtahal who left home to take up a job in the hinterland area since last October but never returned.
Shivtahal of Number 10 Village, West Coast Berbice left his home to take up a job as a gold miner in Itabali. He went into the interior with a crew of other miners, including a resident of the same village.
In October and November, the 22-year-old called his mother and informed her that the crew will be coming home in December and also in February and he will come with them.
However, in December, the crew returned to their respective homes but Joseph did not return or call his family. His mother inquired about his whereabouts from the crew and was told “he say he ain’t coming out.”
The crew went back into the interior and came out in February last and still there was no information about Joseph’s whereabouts. He did not call his family from December last to present.
Joseph’s father, Roland Jaundoo told this publication that he was informed that one of the miners was under the influence of alcohol and reportedly said in the open that “Joseph done dead and bury.”
The father is worried and is calling on the Guyana Police Force to help him locate his son. A missing person report was filed and he made a few inquiries at Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) and was told that no one by his son’s name went to Itabali on the date mentioned.
Anyone with information about Joseph’s whereabouts is being asked to contact his father on 6752545 or the nearest police station.
